The battery - no hope?

One of the main obstacles for the mass introduction of electric vehicles is the lack of battery charge of sufficient capacity. In any case, the run on a single charge becomes a decisive factor when buying an electric car. The problem is much deeper.

The main requirement for electric storage battery

Not only capacity efficiency is a crucial factor. One of the main parameters of the car is its dynamics - the ability to gain speed quickly and stall. This means that the battery should be with minimal losses for the second issue and get current in thousand amperes or more.

Chemistry brakes an electric car

Yes, these batteries have begun to appear. But does this mean that they will be able to function normally in severe road conditions? No. Why? Because any battery is a chemical energy source. And any chemical process takes time. Time to change some chemical elements to other ones and to move from one plate to another becomes another problem. Any acceleration of this process, as well as attempts to replace chemical elements are doomed to failure.

Electric vehicles with a bomb under the hood

Yes, you can create more ample battery but while reloading always remains a risk that the chemical reaction will go wrong. Exploding batteries in mobile phones is an example. The desire to speed up the charge in favour of the user will inevitably lead to a breach of the chemical process. And what if your battery has greater power and you are driving on a busy highway? And what if it is charged and discharged at every traffic light?

Physics will help electric vehicles?

Other sources of energy can be used on physical principles. For example, super capacitors. There is no chemistry here but physics only. Charges, accumulating instantly.

Your car and socket in your apartment

How does it refer to electric vehicles? Suppose that the battery for run equal to gasoline engine is created. And where will it be charged? In an electric outlet of your apartment?

When wiring for a residential house was being projected it wasn't supposed to charge electric vehicles. 3 mm aluminium wire of your house is not able to give more than 2 kW power. And how much power do electric vehicles require? 10-20 times more. But let's suppose you personally changed the wiring for more powerful one. Does this mean that you will get more power? No, because it turns out that the main power cable that goes from your house to the substation is designed only to the same couple of kilowatts for each apartment.

Electric car is unnecessary in the power system of the country

But even if you replace a cable all will stop because of the power transformer substations. they were also projected according to an estimated average needs of each apartment. And not more. And further on the chain you will have to solve the problem of the high-voltage line from the nearest power plant. Incidentally, power plants, whether nuclear or thermal are also a limited option.

Thus, before the mass introduction of electric cars stand two obstacles.

1. Nothing to charge. There are no battery unit with sufficient capacity.

2. There is no opportunity to charge. Existing urban electrical network is not able to pass such a quantity of energy.

If the first problem is being tried to solve, then the solution of the second one requires unrealistic costs for the improvement of public electrification programmes.
